Death Empowerment

Death empowerment is the choice to bring love and peace to the end of life transition.

As human beings, community is programmed into our DNA. It is ingrained in us through this and our ancient wisdom to be present with members of our community who are sick and dying. In recent decades, we have forgotten these compassionate practices and have replaced them with fear and the notion of battling death.

When we release fear and fight, the transition through to death is one surrounded in peace.

As an End of Life Doula, my function is to be present without judgement and to serve you in fulfilling your wishes and those of your loved one who is transitioning.

Death is the opposite of life but a part of it.

Palliative Care VS Hospice Care

We often hear the terms Palliative Care and Hospice Care used together. They are complementary but they are not the same.

Both provide comprehensive comfort care as well as support for person and family. The major difference being that Palliative Care can begin at the time of diagnosis or at anytime during the treatment process. Hospice Care begins when treatment options have ceased.

Hospice is an approach to care that is not tied to a specific place. It can be administered in a hospital setting, a hospice centre or a private home. It is more of a consulting organization that offers certified nursing assistance for medical attention.

Bereavement

Bereavement is defined as a period of mourning after a loss, especially after the death of a loved one.

Grief is defined as the keen mental suffering or distress over affliction or loss; sharp sorrow; painful regret.

As displayed in these definitions, grief is not a feeling as much as a capacity. One that can begin even before death. It is a process, that when navigated in compassion and acceptance, can offer one of the truly greatest gifts to both those passing and those holding space for them.

Bereavement is the deepest initiation into the mysteries of human life, an initiation more searching and profound than even happy love.
